Honoring American Heroes and Codifying Trump’s Executive Orders

  • NFPL Subcommittee

This week, the Subcommittee on Federal Lands held a legislative hearing on four bills advancing President Trump's Executive Orders (EO), honoring key figures in American history and promoting public access to our national parks. Subcommittee Chairman Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) issued the following statement in response:

"As we begin America’s 250th year, the Federal Lands Subcommittee reasserts its pledge to protecting and preserving our vast landscapes, natural resources, and waterways for generations to come. Today, we will take up legislation that supports President Trump’s agenda and honors the historic figures, milestones, and landmarks that tell America’s story."

Background

H.R. 1945, the America's National Churchill Museum National Historic Landmark Actintroduced by U.S. Rep. Bob Onder (R-Mo.), will designate America’s National Churchill museum at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., as a National Historic Landmark. The Museum honors the life and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill and marks the site of his landmark 1946 speech, “The Sinews of Peace,” which is widely regarded as marking the beginning of the Cold War.

H.R. 2306, the Adams Memorial-Great American Heroes Actintroduced by U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Mich.), supports ongoing efforts to create a memorial to the Adams family, one of America’s most influential founding families. This legislation extends the authorization of the commission supporting the memorial. This legislation advances the goals of President Trump's EO 14252, "Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful."

H.R. 4285, the Semiquincentennial Tourism and Access to Recreation Sites or STARS Actintroduced by U.S. Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-Utah), designates September 17, 2026, Constitution Day, as a fee-free day at National Park System units in celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. This legislation advances the goals of President Trump's EO 14189, "Celebrating America's 250th Birthday."

H.R. 2290, the World War II Women's Memorial Location Actintroduced by U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), would authorize the location of the World War II women's memorial on or near the National Mall. The memorial honors the more than 18 million women who served the war effort across every sector of American society.  This legislation advances the goals of President Trump's EO 14252, "Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful."
