This week, the America's Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Reauthorization Act of 2024 passed the U.S. House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support. "The ACE Act is a perfect example of how the federal government can responsibly and safely manage our natural resources while balancing the needs of working communities. Congressman Wittman is an expert on conservation issues and his leadership on this legislation has been crucial to getting it across the finish line. I'd also like to thank Congresswoman Kiggans for her work in delivering this win for her constituents. These representatives are consistent champions of proven conservation programs and work tirelessly to advance them in Congress." - House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) "Before coming to Congress, I spent 20 years as a shellfish specialist monitoring water quality and environmental health issues in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. From this experience, I know how critical it is that we protect and manage our natural resources wisely. I couldn’t be more proud to see my America's Conservation Enhancement Reauthorization Act pass the House. Through this legislation, we will continue record investment in our nation’s precious natural resources, support our agricultural communities, and preserve our wildlife, waters, and lands for generations to come. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bill so we can swiftly send the ACE Reauthorization Act to the president’s desk." - U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) “Coastal Virginia is blessed to be home to the Chesapeake Bay, filled with countless fish and other wildlife that should be protected. I am honored to be a strong advocate for the preservation of our local habitats so Virginia families and visitors can enjoy them for decades to come. The America’s Conservation Enhancement Reauthorization Act of 2024 will ensure we can continue to protect important wildlife and natural resources across the country, and I am proud to see it signed into law.” - U.S. Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Va.) Background The America's Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act of 2024 passed the House by a recorded vote of 366-21. This vital legislation reauthorizes and amends conservation programs authorized under the original ACE Act, which was first signed into law in 2020. These programs include the North American Wetland Conservation Program, the Chronic Wasting Disease Task Force and more. The ACE Act will protect waterfowl, fish, wildlife resources and wetland habitats while supporting local economies that depend on outdoor recreation, tourism and agriculture. These bills also support various private and public partnerships to maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems while ensuring access to activities like hunting, fishing and family farming.
