BACKGROUND:

The hearing will examine a reportedly new precedent set by the Obama Administration’s Treasury Department to start taxing certain benefits of individual Indian tribal members, including many who are jobless and rely on public assistance. The hearing was requested by several large tribes and will be of interest to those actively engaged in developing their trust natural resources which provide benefits for tribal members.
