Subcommittee on Water and Power
SUBCOMMITTEE ON WATER AND POWER
OVERSIGHT HEARING ON:
OPENING STATEMENT: The Honorable Tom McClintock The Honorable Paul Gosar WITNESSES AND TESTIMONY: Panel I The Honorable Gregory Mendoza The Honorable Gail Griffin The Honorable Amanda A. Reeve The Honorable Doug Von Gausig Nicole Horseherder, Dine' P. Andrew Groseta Tom Jones John Sullivan BACKGROUND: This hearing, requested by Reps. Paul Gosar (AZ-1), Trent Franks (AZ-2), Ben Quayle (AZ-3), David Schweikert (AZ-5) and Jeff Flake (AZ-6), will examine federal water and power actions that threaten Arizona’s economy and jobs and potential remedies to those actions. A number of federal actions, regulations and decisions would undermine water supplies and raise electricity rates in Arizona. This field hearing will focus on the Navajo Generating Station, the March 16, 2012 memo from Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and recently announced operational changes to Glen Canyon Dam, and the impact of declining forest health on water and power supplies. These issues not only have impacts on Arizonans but are microcosms of larger west-wide and nationwide issues. The Subcommittee will hear from one panel of local, non-federal witnesses. |
