COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES
OVERSIGHT HEARING ON:
OPENING STATEMENT: The Honorable Doc Hastings WITNESSES AND TESTIMONY: Panel I Roby Roberts Susan Reilly James S. Gordon Jim Lanard Rhone Resch Frank DeRosa Dr. Martin Piszczalski Dan W. Reicher BACKGROUND: This hearing will focus on industry’s perspective of roadblocks to the development of wind and solar on federal lands. There are currently 95 solar permit and 47 wind permit applications pending within the Bureau of Land Management. While the Administration claims to prioritize renewable energy development, their own policies are some of the biggest roadblocks to expanding renewable energy production on public lands. Furthermore, renewable energy development has been plagued by lengthy, burdensome lawsuits filed by environmentalists. These delays slow down domestic energy production, cost jobs, and cost millions of dollars as project investor delivery expectations are put on hold due to permitting delays.
