Western Water Investment Delivers for American Farmers, Families

Today, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced a major investment in western water infrastructure, delivering on a provision included in the Working Families Tax Cut law. Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response:

“One of our priorities in H.R. 1 was to ensure reliable water deliveries for farmers, ranchers and local communities across the West. Today’s announcement from the Trump administration fulfills that goal. Communities across the Western United States will have more secure and resilient water supplies because of this historic investment.”

Background

The investment announced today was included in the House Committee on Natural Resources’ title of H.R. 1, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on July 3, 2025, and was signed into law by President Trump the next day. Among other things, the legislation allocated $1 billion for western water infrastructure, focusing on surface storage and conveyance.
