Congressional Delegation Visits South Korea, Highlighting Energy and Fisheries Agenda

This week, House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) led a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) to South Korea. Upon departure, Westerman released the following statement: 

"The strong partnership between the United States and South Korea was clear in our visit with Acting President Lee, members of the cabinet and business leaders. I’d like to thank Acting President Lee for his hospitality during our visit. In addition, our delegation gratefully had the opportunity to engage with U.S. troops stationed in the country and express our appreciation for the work they do every day to defend our nation and our allies."

Background

During their time in South Korea, members met with Acting President Ju-ho Lee, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Duk-geun Ahn, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Do-hyung Kang and CEO of the Federation of Korean Industries Chang-beom Kim along with South Korean business and industry leaders. Members also met with American troops serving in South Korea. In their meetings, the delegation discussed energy, trade and fishery-related issues and as well as the threat North Korea and the People’s Republic of China post to the safety and security of the United States and our allies.
