Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Gulf of America Act of 2025 by a vote of 211-206. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response: "Today, House Republicans advanced a meaningful part of President Trump's America first agenda by voting to officially rename the Gulf of America. This action will ensure continuity across the federal government and honor the region with a name that recognizes American greatness." Background H.R. 276, the Gulf of America Act of 2025, introduced by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), renames the area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14172 “Restoring Names that Honor American Greatness,” which officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. |
