Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.J. Res. 60 with a vote of 219-205. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response: "Today is a great day for Utahns and all Americans who enjoy outdoor recreation and access to our public lands. With today's vote, House Republicans are restoring access to iconic American destinations and undoing the Biden administration’s land lockups. I thank Congresswoman Maloy for her work on this issue and her steadfast leadership for southern Utah." Background H.J. Res 60, introduced by U.S. Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-Utah), overturns a Biden administration regulation restricting off-highway vehicle use throughout the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah. Off-highway vehicle recreation supports small businesses and rural economies throughout the state of Utah, which has a $9.5 billion outdoor recreation economy. Overturning this regulation restores access to dozens of miles of popular trails and shorelines. |
