Today, President Donald Trump will issue a comprehensive energy executive order that unleashes American energy dominance. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) released the following statement in response:

"In the first hours of his presidency, Trump is restoring strength and commonsense to the White House and unleashing American energy dominance. Ending Biden’s radical eco-agenda, including reversing the recent disastrous withdrawal of 625 million acres of federal waters from energy production, opening Alaska for energy exploration and unlocking our nation’s full energy production potential puts America first and prioritizes our country’s national and economic security. President Trump’s actions reinforce what House Republicans have said for years - that energy security is national security. I applaud the bold and historic actions taken today by President Trump and look forward to working with him as we unleash American energy dominance."

Background

Shortly after his inauguration, President Trump will sign an executive order on energy that addresses a multitude of issues, including:

  • Declaring a National Energy Emergency to formally establish energy policy as a key factor of national security.
  • Opening Alaska for responsible energy exploration, including in the 1002 area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A).
  • Streamlining permitting and cutting red tape on energy production and use, including mining and processing of non-fuel minerals.
  • Rescinding former President Joe Biden's withdrawal of 625 million acres of federal coastal waters from drilling.
  • Repealing the EV mandate and the rest of the previous administration’s radical eco-agenda's executive actions.

Committee Republicans stand ready to continue this momentum into the 119th Congress and work with President Trump to put America first and prioritize our energy and national security.
