Westerman Applauds Senate Passage of RFK Stadium Bill, Eliminating Burden on Taxpayers

  • NFPL Subcommittee

Last night, the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act passed the Senate with unanimous support. House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response:

"In the final few hours of the 118th congress, the American taxpayer scored one more win with the passage of this legislation. Now the National Park Service can focus on reducing their $23.3 billion deferred maintenance backlog instead of wasting federal tax dollars on a crumbling stadium in D.C. I was proud to work with Chairman Comer and Delegate Holmes Norton on this meaningful legislation that is a win-win for the National Park Service and District of Columbia."

Background

H.R. 4984, the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act, will transfer administrative jurisdiction over the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus to the District of Columbia to facilitate commercial and residential development, while ensuring continued outdoor recreation usage and park access. This transfer removes the stadium campus from federal control and eliminates a significant burden on the American taxpayer. The bill passed the Senate with unanimous support and will now head to the president's desk to be signed into law.
