Today, the House Committee on Natural Resources held its member day hearing, giving members of Congress the opportunity to testify before the committee on issues of importance to them and their districts. Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) issued the following statement in response: "The legislation we work on in the House Committee on Natural Resources touches nearly every corner of the country. Today's hearing was a critical opportunity, open to all members of Congress to testify before the committee about the natural resources issues in their districts. We heard from a bipartisan group of 11 members on issues including wildfire prevention, responsible forestry, water management, energy production, coastal recreation, migrant shelters on federal lands and infrastructure projects, to name a few. Today was an important step in further engaging with our colleagues across America and striving to improve the lives of all the American citizens we work for." Background House rules require each standing committee to hold a member day hearing during the first session of the 118th Congress to hear testimony from members on proposed legislation within the committee’s jurisdiction. Members were invited to testify on issues within the committee’s jurisdiction or topics of importance to them and their constituents. The invitation to testify was extended to all members of the House of Representatives. Today's hearing included 11 members from districts across the country who spoke on natural resources issues affecting their constituents. To learn more, click here. |
