During Full Committee Markup, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) committed to holding a hearing on the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act. Introduced by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), the legislation prioritized construction of water storage, the authorization of projects and operations that aimed to maximize water supplies, and increased California’s flexibility to deliver water at certain times of the year. Watch Huffman’s remarks HERE. The announcement came after a discussion on an amendment offered by U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), which would reauthorize federal funding for water storage and delivery projects as well as desalination and water recycling programs. Reauthorization of the WIIN Act would ensure California’s continued resiliency against droughts and help western families, communities, and farmers have year-round access to clean, affordable water. |
