Today, Ranking Republican Rob Bishop (R-Utah) released the following statement regarding the Inspector General’s report confirming that the Department of the Interior Secretary David Bernhardt acted ethically and did not exceed or abuse his authority in relation to his review of an Endangered Species Act consultation. In addition, the report rejects claims of inappropriate political influence and validates the Secretary’s statements in testimony to Congress during the confirmation process. “Contrary to false allegations lodged at David Bernhardt during his Senate confirmation process, the Inspector General has confirmed Secretary Bernhardt never interfered with scientific findings. Once again, facts have revealed hyper partisanship that has blinded Democrats from focusing on real issues rather than attempting to besmirch dedicated public servants in this Administration. Bernhardt’s years of legal experience and leadership roles within the Department are an asset, and he continues to adhere to strong ethical standards.” Read the Inspector General report titled Alleged Improper Influence by the Secretary of DOI in the FWS’ Scientific Process HERE. |
