Outer Continental Shelf Governor’s Coalition Encourages Congress to Support Expanded Offshore American Energy Production

Just like rising temperatures across America, gas prices are on the rise too and calls for lower energy prices are growing. This week, the Outer Continental Shelf Governor’s Coalition, comprised of Governors from Alaska, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina, sent letters to their respective Congressional delegations calling for increased offshore energy production. As coastal state governors, they know how important energy development is to their states’ economies for job creation, lower energy prices, and additional state revenue. In the letter, they call on Congress to support efforts to increase offshore lease sales not only in the Gulf of Mexico but off the Atlantic Coast.

This is just the latest in the calls for increased U.S. energy production. On June 28, the House passed H.R. 2231, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act. This bipartisan bill, introduced by Chairman Hastings, would expand U.S. offshore energy production in order to create new American jobs, lower energy prices, grow our economy, and strengthen America’s national security.
