Ranking Member Hastings Statement on House Republicans “Pledge to America”

House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement after House Republicans unveiled “A Pledge to America,” a new governing agenda built by listening to the American people that offers immediate solutions to create jobs, cut spending, reform Congress, and keep our nation secure.

“The principles outlined in ‘A Pledge to America’ draw a stark contrast to the reckless spending and job-killing policies of the Democrat Congress and Obama Administration that are hurting American families and our economy.  By listening to everyday Americans, Republicans have developed a standard for governing that will create jobs, stop wasteful government spending and secure our porous borders—all top priorities of the American people,” said Ranking Member Hastings. “Fighting a national energy tax and expanding domestic energy production through an all-of-the-above strategy is a part of the Pledge that will create permanent, high paying jobs and help reduce our out of control national debt.  Above all, the Pledge is about carrying out the will of the people with bold solutions that can be implemented today.”

“A Pledge to America” includes the following agenda items that have been specifically promoted by Republicans on the House Natural Resources Committee:

  • Establish operational control of the border. We must take action to secure our borders, and that action starts with enforcing our laws.  We will ensure that the Border Patrol has the tools and authorities to establish operational control at the border and prohibit the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture from interfering with Border Patrol enforcement activities on federal land.
  • We will fight to increase access to domestic energy sources and oppose attempts to impose a national “cap and trade” energy tax.
