House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (WA-04) today released the following statement regarding the all-of-the above energy plan contained in the Republican budget alternative:
“It’s practically impossible for Americans to turn on their televisions without learning of another attempt by the federal government to tax massive amounts of their hard-earned money. Soon, if the President and Democrats in Congress have their way, Americans won’t just hear about higher taxes when they turn on their televisions –they’ll actually pay them because they’ll be taxed each and every time they use electricity. In fact, the President’s proposed budget contains a new national energy tax that could cost American families up to $1600 a year. “Americans deserve a better choice. “Today, House Republicans presented a responsible budget to the American people that include an all-of-the-above energy plan. The Republican plan contains specific measures to develop renewable and alternative energy sources, support new nuclear energy technologies, increase domestic development of U.S. oil and gas reserves jobs, and invest in new clean coal technology. These measures will facilitate economic growth, create new jobs in communities across our country, and make us less dependent on foreign energy sources. “Instead of passing a budget that taxes, spends, and borrows too much, Democrats should provide Congress with an opportunity to consider the Republicans’ responsible budget alternative and put America back on a path to prosperity.” # # # |
