Unanswered Questions About the US Park Police's Attack on Peaceful Protesters
On June 28, the Natural Resources Committee held an oversight hearing to investigate the violent June 1 attack by law enforcement agents against peaceful #BlackLivesMatter protesters at #LafayetteSquare near the White House. Acting U.S. Park Police Chief Gregory Monahan was invited to testify at that hearing, but refused. We’re holding a second hearing on those attacks on Tuesday, July 28. Mr. Monahan will appear in person and answer our questions about why the assault happened, who issued the orders, why they issued those orders and how this event foreshadowed other violent police crackdowns around the country. We’ll also hear from Adam DeMarco, a West Point graduate, former Army officer and current major in the District of Columbia National Guard, who will appear under the Military Whistleblower Protection Act. We need to understand why this happened and who was responsible to keep Americans safe and see which policies need to be changed.
