ADVISORY: Chair Grijalva to Join Press Call on Fossil Fuel Industry’s False Claims, New Report

Washington, D.C. Tomorrow, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern, Chair Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) will join Taxpayers for Common Sense for a press briefing hosted by Accountable.US to discuss the fossil fuel industry’s opportunistic and false claims that we need more oil and gas production on public lands to address Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. A new report by Accountable.US shows that there is no evidence that a purported lack of access to new leases on federal public lands increases the price of gasoline and natural gas paid by consumers. Their report also shows that oil and gas production has not been impacted by the volume of new permits or the offering of new leases.

As the report demonstrates, the retail price of gasoline and natural gas delivered to consumers are largely driven by crude oil and natural gas spot prices, which are primarily influenced by global markets and events – not the drilling that occurs on federal public lands in the United States.
