On August 6, 2009, ten Senate Democrats sent a letter to President Obama regarding their concerns about the job-killing National Energy Tax bill. They said:
“We must not engage in a self-defeating effort that displaces greenhouse gas emissions rather than reducing them and displaces U.S. jobs rather than bolstering them.”
As the National Journal reported on August 19, 2009:
“Nantucket Sound, where plans to build a 130-turbine wind farm have sparked heated resistance, has become ground zero for a larger debate about offshore renewable energies.”
The Republican all-of-the-above American Energy Act encourages the development of a wide range of energy like wind, nuclear, solar, hydropower, and biomass while increasing production of American-made oil and natural gas. This bill:
Creates a Renewable and Alternative Energy Trust Fund to provide funding for energy programs authorized by federal law, such as biomass, hydroelectric, clean coal, solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy.
Encourages new and expanding energy technologies by making permanent tax credits for the production of renewable electricity, like wind, solar, and biomass.
