Background:

Thursday, March 27, 2014, is the fiftieth anniversary of the Great Alaska Earthquake that occurred at 5:36 PM local time on Good Friday in 1964. The earthquake was a 9.2 magnitude, the second largest earthquake in recorded history. This hearing will examine the advances in earthquake science, seismology, during the last 50 years since the Great Alaska Earthquake.
