BACKGROUND:

The Full Committee will hold its first oversight hearing of the 112th Congress and receive testimony on the final report by President Obama's National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling. The purpose of the hearing will focus on the Commission's findings into the causes of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the on-going federal response and recommendations to keep America's offshore energy production the safest in the world. It is essential for Congress to have all the facts surrounding the cause of the oil spill in order to make the right reforms. The Commission's report is a component of the discussion and there are recommendations that deserve consideration.
