WITNESSES AND TESTIMONY: Panel I Jon Jarvis Robert Abbey BACKGROUND: The Subcommittee will hear testimony from the Department of the Interior officials regarding the Fiscal Year 2013 budget requests from the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. The National Park Service's total budget is proposed at $2.986 billion, essentially flat compared to FY 2012. However, the park operations account would receive an increase of $13.5 million. The Bureau of Land Management's total proposed budget is $1.127 billion ($1.3 billion with permanent operating funds and trusts) and essentially flat compared to FY 2012. Primary increases include $33.6 million for Land Acquisition; $15.3 million in Sage Grouse/wildlife management; $2.2 million for the control and capture of wild horses and burros in the West; and $27.6 million for information technology management. Major decreases include: $15 million reduction in Rangeland Management; $26.4 for oil and gas management a shirt to inspection fees from discretionary appropriations to a new inspection fee; and a more than 50% reduction ($16.7 million) in the Alaska Conveyance program. |
